Earlier this week I shared with you the delicious details of my birthday celebration at the Shore Club in Miami, but I know what you were thinking - where was the birthday cake?
Well my friends, fear not, there was indeed cake during the Miami birthday celebration. In fact, my sister made a dinner reservation at restaurant that is known for two things: vegetable side dishes and chocolate cake. Could this place be more perfect for me?
The name of this magical veggie and cake mecca is Blue Collar. The restaurant is located in an area of Miami called MiMo.
We arrived at Blue Collar and the hostess informed us it would be a significant wait for a table inside. Blue Collar only has about 10 indoor tables so we took a seat on the outdoor patio to wait and have a drink.
After about 20 minutes we decided to just eat outside (the forecast was for rain, so we were trying to get inside before the sky opened up). We risked the forecast to get down to business!
Our newly assigned waiter came out to bring us menus which were delivered on clip boards.
We also ordered the macaroni and cheese. You can tell we were ready to chow down because we ordered the heaviest thing on the menu as an appetizer. Ha!
For dinner my sister ordered the corvina (a type of fish) which was served over a bed of quinoa and peas. She loved it and gobbled the whole plate right up!
Three of us ordered what Blue Collar is famous for, the veggie plate. For an entree you can choose four of Blue Collar's 22 possible veggie sides. I went with the curried cauliflower, the sweet potato and plantain mash, the broccoli in soy sauce and the grilled asparagus with blue cheese.
Once our dinner plates were cleared, our waiter tried to convince us that the best dessert on the menu was the bread pudding and that we had to have it. We had been looking forward to the chocolate cake for two weeks and could not be derailed.
For the five of us we ordered two slices of the chocolate cake. It arrived in the most adorable presentation - accompanied by a glass bottle of milk with two straws poking out. This is just like Yardbird, another phenomenal Miami restaurant!
After we licked the two chocolate cake plates clean, our waiter brought us the check in this branded coffee mug. Had I been carrying a bigger purse I would have made sure to go home with this mug.
